Cloud 9 is an old and traditional brand – renowned for its quality carpet and wood underlays that are made from lightweight PU (polyurethane) foam. There are a variety of different styles and thicknesses available, but two of the most popular in the range include:
1. Cloud 9 Cirrus Underlay
Cloud 9 Cirrus Underlay is suitable for use in all rooms of the home. Featuring a printed stitch paper topping, it prevents over-stretching and is durable enough for busy high-traffic areas. It also has a 9mm thick construction. And, therefore, demonstrates good thermal and sound reduction properties and has a high comfort rating of 4.
2. Cloud 9 Cumulus Underlay
Cloud 9 Cumulus Underlay is designed with quality and comfort in mind.
It’s very similar to the Cloud 9 Cirrus Underlay. In fact, the only difference is that it’s slightly thicker – measuring 11mm rather than 9mm. But as a result, it has a much higher TOG rating of 3.1 and successfully reduces impact noise by up to 43dB (compared to 2.6 TOG and 39dB, respectively). That’s why, it’s now the most popular and highly regarded product in the Cloud 9 underlay range.
Why choose Cloud 9 carpet underlay?
Thanks to its unique properties, Cloud 9 carpet underlay was deemed the best carpet underlay from 2008 – 2016. Since then, the industry has advanced and – nine times out of ten – we would now recommend the Plushwalk 12mm underlay instead. Cut from enhanced ‘bounce-back’ memory foam, this has a 3.5 TOG rating, 49dB sound reduction and creates astonishing levels of underfoot comfort.
But it’s important to bear in mind, Cloud 9 underlay is a much cheaper alternative – starting from just £4.82 per m2 (compared to £6.99 per m2 for Plushwalk). Made by award-winning manufacturers, Ball & Young Ltd, it’s of good quality and complies with all UK safety standards.
